Nederland’s “Frozen Dead Guy” on The Tonight Show
Grandpa Bredo competes for “Most Interesting Person in Colorado”

NEDERLAND, COLORADO - Nederland’s famous “Frozen Dead Guy” Bredo Morstoel competed Wednesday night, January 26th, on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno for the title of Most Interesting Person in Colorado. “Ice Man” Bo Shaffer of Longmont flew to Los Angeles, California to represent the deceased Morstoel in the competition.

“Grandpa Bredo”, as he is affectionately known by local residents, was flown to America and cryogenically frozen after his death in Norway over a decade ago. He gained world fame when his grandson Trygve Bauge was deported and his mother Aud was concerned about how they would manage “the bodies” when she also left for Norway. After the political and media frenzy, the town government decided that Bredo could remain in a shed in the mountains and be maintained on dry ice indefinitely. The Tuff Shed company of Denver stepped up and provided sturdy housing for Grandpa.

Frozen Dead Guy Days®, a world renowned unusual winter festival, began three years ago when the Nederland Area Chamber of Commerce decided to have fun with the story. The event celebrates this unusual resident and attracts thousands of people for the Tuff Shed Coffin Races, Frozen T-Shirt Contest, Grandpa Look-Alike Contest, Ice Queen Competition, Grandpa’s Blue Ball, Brain Freeze Contest, Ice & Snow Sculpting, Parade with Grand Marshal Aud Morstoel, Antique Hearses, and more. The Fourth Annual Frozen Dead Guy Days is March 11 - 13, 2005. Visit www.nederlandchamber.org for more information about the festival and the story of Grandpa Bredo.
