The 11th Annual High Peaks Art Festival will be June 25-26, from 10 Am to 5 Pm. This year's Featured non-profit is Wild Bear Nature Center of Nederland.

Highlights for 2011.

"Fluting from the Heart" Exhibiting at High Peaks Art Festival for the first time is flute maker Rick Gnerich from Patagonia, Arizona. Rick's flutes are made from North American woods only - cedar, birch and walnut; many with turquoise inlays. Rick will be teaching about the flute, the history of fluting in North America and playing flutes throughout the weekend. His non-amplified music has been a welcome addition to other Colorado art festivals in Salida, Carbondale and Frisco.

Wild Bear Mountain Ecology Center
Each year, High Peaks Art Festival chooses one Nederland non-profit to feature at the event. This year it is Wild Bear. Their booth will have fun and free activities on both days:
Saturday
10:00am ñ Noon
- Wild Clay Creatures: Work with the earth to create small animal fetishes to take home. Learn about their meanings through the eyes of Native Americans.
1:00pm ñ 3:00pm - Paint your own Earth Flags, using natural dyes.
Sunday
10:00am ñ Noon - Watercolor painting:
Draw and paint wild nature, then mount your work to take home!
Noon ñ 2:00pm - Earth Sculptures: Study the works of Andy Goldsworthy and create your own sculptures using clay, sticks and rocks.

The 2nd Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art contest will be sponsored again this year by the Nederland Downtown Development Authority during Sunday, June 26th of the High Peaks Art Festival. Look for the NDDA booth on the south side of the Nederland Visitor Center. Registration is free and will begin at 10:00 a.m. Chalk will be provided to registrants. Cash prizes of $300 will be awarded in three age categories, ten and under, eleven to seventeen, and adult category, with a first, second and third prize in each age group.

Artist Awards Presentation - Saturday - 12:00pm
This is the third year that the Festival is presenting artists with awards. Over $1,200 in cash and gift certificates will be presented to artists in 14 categories. Roche Colorado Corporation has been the Best of Show sponsor each year, awarding a $250 cash prize to the show's finest artist. Join Roche's John Tayer as he helps Festival judges and Nederland Mayor Sumaya present that award.

Over the Rainbow Preschool hosts the Turtle Float Race - Sunday, June26 - 3:00pmas an annual fundraiser. Turtles race down Boulder Creek. Winners of the races and drawings win great prizes. Over The Rainbow is a community-based cooperative, not-for-profit preschool. Their environmental, literacy-based curriculum and experiential approach encourage children to explore, inquire and express themselves through language, science, art, math, dramatic play, and music. 2011 Artists - a sampling

This year's Featured Cover Artist is painter Bruce White from Littleton. Bruce won Best of Painting last year.Ceramicist Eric Abraham of Lucas, Kansas joins us for the first time with his sculptural porcelain work.
Black Hawk resident Randy Blunt is new to the show with his pine beetle furniture. Jeweler/enamelist Julie Glassman from Grand Junction is a Festival favorite. It's her 5th year and she won Best of Jewelry in 2009.
Susan Kelley of Littleton has been exhibiting her gorgeous stained glass for over 30 years and it's her first time here. Catherine Young of Evergreen is new to the Festival, works in silver and gems.
