GRANDPA’S STILL IN THE TUFF SHED
A story of love, death, ice and high hopes
“There’s been a lot of Grandpa sightings in Nederland this year,” reports
Robin Beeck, who with the help of Michael Moore, has spent the last five years
filming a feature-length 60-minute documentary on Bredo Morstoel, a Norwegian
who was frozen solid by his grandson in a bizarre cryonics experiment in
1983. Since then, the world-famous....well...stiff has been lying under 800
pounds of dry ice in a TUFF SHED behind his grandsons’ castle-like house in the
9000-ft Colorado ski town of Nederland. The grandson, Trygve Bauge, has
long since been deported back to Norway, but Grandpa Bredo has remained,
unwittingly becoming a worldwide symbol of the legal rights of the temporarily
dead....
The film follows the puzzled townsfolk as they progress from fear and anger
at the body’s discovery, to a gradual grudging acceptance, and finally, a
world-renowned celebration in Grandpa’s honor: Frozen Dead Guy Days.
