The Backdoor Chamber Music Festival was founded three years ago and is a member of the Colorado Music Alliance, the umbrella of all of the summer music festivals in Colorado. Unlike the larger festivals around the state, the Backdoor Festival features Colorado musicians who are the mainstay of music education and presentation all year long.

August 1 Augustana Winds.   The Augustana Winds are a chamber ensemble of the Musica Sacra Chamber Orchestra and, like the orchestra, the Quintet is supported and sponsored by Augustana Arts. Musica Sacra Specializes in the presentation of baroque and early classical chamber music, although it performs works from all time periods. The Quintet is currently focusing on a more modem repertoire and becoming more intimate with works originally written for quintet.

August 8 Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra with Buster Keaton in “The Camera Man”.   This ensemble, formed in 1994, recreates the original sound of the silent film theater which existed between roughly 1913 and 1928.

August 15 Confluence String Quartet.   Based in Denver and has been performing together since 1997. Are regular performers around the state and are, collectively, teachers, conductors, performers, composers and symphony members. They will be performing quartets by Janacek, Britten, and Beethoven.

August 22 Aries Brass.   Founded in 1976, the Aries Brass Quintet, the recital quintet of The Denver Brass, is an ensemble internationally recognized for its elegant approach to brass chamber music performance. They have toured allover the world and have enjoyed a 22 year residency with the prestigious St John’s Cathedral chamber music series in Denver. They are in residence at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music.

August 29 “Beyond Broadway”.   This group of musicians were former classmates at the University of Denver, performing in opera and musicals. Consisting of a pianist and four singers, they will be presenting selections ranging from opera to Broadway. Their accompanist, Bill Lewis, is currently the pianist for the Irish tenor, Ronan Tynan.
